Weeks 42 and 43 - Visit with Grandma

This past week my Mom flew in from Idaho to spend the week with Milan and I.  James attended a conference in Chicago, so the three of us enjoyed a "girls" week!  Milan really enjoyed spending time with her Grandma and the week just seemed to fly by.  A really neat thing happened while my Mom was here, she was able to witness Milan pulling herself up for the first time!  A week later, Milan is a pulling up pro.  Even more exciting, my Mom was witness to Milan saying "Mama", PURPOSEFULLY, for the first time!  I have to say it was and will be one of my all time favorite moments.  The weather was gorgeous so we spent the week taking long walks in the park, hanging out on the porch, and playing with Milan.  We did a little shopping and enjoyed a local scarecrow festival.  It was really hard for Milan and I to see Mom go, but we are looking forward to seeing her again when we travel to Idaho in mid-November.

Pulling up and FINALLY able to get into things on the higher shelves of her bookcase.

Mama forgot to snap her onesie!

Enjoying the scarecrow display at Peddler's Village.

Pulling up some more!

Week 41 - Baby's Got New Shoes

This week Milan received her very first pair of shoes.  Now this may not be a big deal to most, but it was a big deal to us.  I know there are a lot of babies out there who have been wearing shoes since they were newborns - Milan is not one of those babies.  During the cool months she wore socks and she went barefoot all summer long.  Now that cooler weather is approaching and because Milan can no longer keep socks on her feet to save her life, I thought it was time to introduce shoes.  When I place her feet in the shoes she becomes obsessed with chewing on them, at other times I'm surprised at how she hardly seems to notice them at all.

Week 40 - A Storm is Coming...

It seems like in the blink of an eye, Milan began to "officially" crawl, leading to her "officially" getting into things.   My little hurricane of a daughter can destroy her room in a matter of seconds.  It used to be just her toys (and the toys in her crib), but this week Milan discovered the books in her bookcase and enjoys pulling them off the shelves several times a day.  It seems she is drawn to anything and everything she shouldn't be - closet doors, the radiator, outlets, extension cords, etc.  She is trying to pull up, but so far only semi-successfully - she can pull up to her knees.  I give her a week, possibly two before she figures out how to pull herself to a standing position.  Needless to say, we have a lot of baby-proofing to do and we need to do it quickly!
